Film grain app for Android

GoldenHour adds film grain that follows your photo's brightness (strongest in midtones and shadows, lighter in bright highlights, like real film). You set its strength with the Film Grain slider, alongside Light Leaks and Halation.

How GoldenHour's film grain works

Most apps lay a fixed grain texture over the photo. GoldenHour generates grain for every pixel from the photo's own brightness. It's strongest in the midtones, a bit stronger in shadows and lighter in bright highlights, which is how grain shows up on real film. You set the amount with the Film Grain slider in the Develop Lab.

Light leaks and halation

Next to Film Grain, the Develop Lab has Light Leaks (warm streaks, like a leaky camera back) and Halation (a glow around bright lights, like CineStill at night). Combine them, then save the mix as your own preset.

FAQ

Is the grain just an overlay image?

No. GoldenHour computes grain per pixel from the photo's brightness rather than laying a fixed texture on top.

Can I add film grain to photos I already took?

Yes. Import a photo from your gallery, pick a film look and adjust Film Grain in the Develop Lab.

Is there a light leak effect too?

Yes. Light Leaks is a slider in the Develop Lab, next to Film Grain and Halation.
